A report about my trip through HESSEN and THÜRINGEN in autumn 2018.

Today I visit this

MERKERS ADVENTURE MINE

As a precaution, I have by phone, as recommended on the website,

a viewing appointment for 10 a.m. has been arranged.

I stand in the vestibule with a few other visitors full of anticipation.

There is a short introduction and we are given protective helmets in the locker room

and handed over a clothes guard.

I have saved you and myself photos of it.!

Then it goes on to the elevator and then down.

A rapid drive through endless dark, narrow corridors brings us to the museum.

Of course, the history of the gold mine in which some

100 tons of so-called looted gold from the US Army in the spring of 1945

have been secured.

You could get weak if you were in front of the

many sacks of gold bars (copies).

new text

... in the museum gives vivid insights into the history and tradition of mining in the potash district.

In the meantime we have reached a depth of approx. 800 m and it is time for a short one

Take a breather with a cold drink at the crystal bar,

before going to the crystal cave.

The impressive salt crystals, some of which are up to 1.00 m in length

are effectively illuminated with colored spotlights and it

sparkles and sparkles around me.

Past impressive machines and mining equipment, it goes a little higher again to a depth of approx. 500 m.

In between we take part in a blast simulation and the subsequent removal of the released potash salts.

Another highlight is now waiting for us.

It is the concert hall with its impressive acoustics

and atmosphere, which is very often used for special music events

is being used.

Today we are experiencing something special.

A fantastic laser show

which is accompanied by atmospheric music.

That was truly an exhilarating experience and the icing on the cake

on the "I" today.

We drive back to the starting point and stuck like real ones

Miners put our cards on the shelf provided.

Then it goes back upstairs and, to be honest, I'm kind of like that

glad to get rid of the not exactly pleasant hard hat.

On the approx. 21 km long tour, I learned a lot about

working in a potash mine.

So far I had only seen the huge white mountains from the highway

and kept asking me what it was.

But now I know.

I can only recommend a visit here.

It was a pleasant tour with great mine guides

based on their years of experience in the potash mine

were able to convey a lot of information.

Now I'm slowly driving towards home and looking forward to more adventures.

With this in mind, and most importantly, stay healthy
